Cantilevered booties!

October 4, 2009

I am seriously digging the demonstration graphic here on this ad for Innovativa brand booty-lifting jeans. It’s like magic! A super-impressive bum in an instant! Everything hoiked up into place, resulting in pert computer-generated goodness. Faux science at its best.

I also really enjoy the “Como en TV” note. Conjures up images of rows of pert buttocks lined up in some warehouse next to Foreman grills, Yogitoes and Snuggies. Adds that extra note of class, donchathink?

XXY

Jean Paul Gaultier has always had fun playing with gender. For his Autumn/Winter 2009-10 ad campaign, he continues with this trend, taking advantage of the androgyny of Raquel Zimmermann’s features to showcase her in both masculine and feminine roles. I’ve always been slightly thrown by the strength of her jawline, and so now in this campaign, I absolutely love the way she looks in drag. I actually find myself preferring the way she looks in that guise to her femme look.

Photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

(semi-tangentally: how dystopian-hot are these boots in the picture above? Love them!)

Down the Shore

July 26, 2009

coverIn celebration of my very first beach trip this year (yes, I’m aware it’s the end of July) I’ve pulled together some Jantzen ad campaigns from the days of yore. Let’s hope that my day is similarly characterised by glamour, wacky hijinks and burly men. Sadly, I am not possessed of the suit above, else I don’t think I’d need to worry about anything ever again.

Enjoy! And keep your fingers crossed for good weather for me. My skin has achieved astounding new levels of pallidity.

[via] This one above may be my favourite of the series… I love the green and the stylised lines of the design.
